Individuals seeking personal injury protection medical benefits are required to see a doctor within 14 days of the motor vehicle accident. A failure to seek medical attention within the required 14 days can be grounds for the denial of your medical benefits which could be as much as $10,000.
  4. Take photos of the vehicles and the accident scene.
    If you are able to, you should take photos of the autos involved in the accident and the scene as it looked at that time the accident immediately after the accident or soonest possible thereafter. With the advent of digital cameras it is possible to take as many photos as necessary. So don’t hesitate to take this important step. It is also a good idea to keep at least a disposable camera in your glove box.
  5. Do not discuss the accident with anyone.
    The law only requires you to discuss the action of the police when you make out accident report. You should not talk to anyone else i.e. the other driver’s insurance company. They will try to take a recorded statement from you which you should refuse. Never admit fault to the other driver. If you speak to the other driver at the scene of the accident, only exchange the required information.
  6. Report the accident to your own insurance company.
    Report the accident to your own insurance company as soon as possible. Your policy coverage requires you to report the accident to your own insurance company. Therefore, you should cooperate fully with them, including their request for a recorded statement.
